BRIEF HISTORY

Blackhawk Automotive Museum, Blackhawk Plaza |
In the early 1900's, the lush rolling foothill expanse of Mt. Diablo became known as the Blackhawk Ranch, where prized thoroughbreds graced the land for decades. Established in 1917 by San Francisco capitalist Ansel Easton, the ranch was used first as a summer home and later as a working ranch. The ranch gained a worldwide reputation for purebred Shorthorn cattle and prize Shire horses. Years later, this natural splendor inspired a vision of luxury living, and in 1979, a new Blackhawk was born.
Developed by Ken Behring, former owner of the Seattle Seahawks, Blackhawk's approximately 2,200 homes have been written up in countless magazines for their architectural style and way of life. Long known as the haven for the Bay Area's celebrity business executives, entertainers, entrepreneurs and professional athletes, the community continues to draw well heeled, discerning homeowners who prize the anonymity this area affords them. Blackhawk exudes the feel of another time and place. Blackhawk is so special because you don't have to leave home to enjoy the amenities of a world-class resort; there is such serenity in the thousands of acres of open space and Mt. Diablo state parklands that surround and meander throughout the community.
Crime is low and school rankings are very high. Truly, Blackhawk is the quintessential community for those who demand the very best.
